What is Neuro Pilates?

​

 Neuropilates is the practice of pilates in people with neurological disorders. It combines the traditional principles of the Pilates exercise method such as control and breath awareness with neurological rehabilitation principles such as neuroplasticity and motor learning. In your session expect to adapt traditional Pilates movements with functional neurological exercises that stimulate the nervous system. During your first session, Despina will assess your current functional status/needs and will discuss your expectations/goals to put an individualized Pilates program in place for you.

Despina's Education, Experience and Qualifications:

​

-   Certified Brain Injury Specialist through the American Association of Brain Injury since 2017.

-   Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant since 2016.

-   5 years of experience working at Bellevue Hospital's Brain Injury Unit, 3 of which as a Senior PTA.

-   2 years of experience offering Home Care Physical Therapy services primarily to clients with acute and chronic neurological conditions.

-   Has assisted over 1000 patients/clients with neurological conditions in their rehab journey, including Traumatic and non-Traumatic Brain Injury, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injury, and Cerebral Palsy.

-   Advanced continuing training in Neurological Rehabilitation, Vestibular Rehabilitation, and Fall Prevention.

Offering Private Sessions at SOMATA PILATES and home visits upon request.
